1330 Cathedral Lane Halifax
The Royal Canadian College of Organists, will present CarolFest – Lessons and Carols for Advent and Christmas at the Cathedral Church of All Saints (1330 Cathedral Lane, Halifax), on Monday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m. with musical preludes with organ and with string quartet beginning at 7:00 p.m. This is RCCO Halifax Centre’s annual celebration of the Advent and Christmas season with choral music, congregational carols, poetry and readings – a peaceful and spiritual beginning to the Christmas season. A freewill offering will be received. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. The event features local organists, a massed choir, seasonal poetry and sacred readings. Anyone who would like to sing in the choir is welcome and there will be la rehearsal on Saturday, November 30 from 1 – 3:00 p.m. at the Cathedral.
Performers at this event include the Blue Engine String Quartet, one of Halifax’s most respected musical ensembles, and guest reader, Rev. Betsy Hogan. Repertoire includes The Ground by Ola Gjeilo, In the Bleak Midwinter by Mark Hayes, Gloria in Exelsis by Antonio Vivaldi, popular carols such as Once in Royal David’s City (with a soprano singing the first verse at the Cathedral’s west end), Hark the Herald Angels Sing and many other favourites.
