Halifax Camerata Singers Wins Music Nova Scotia Award

Halifax Camerata Singers, currently celebrating their 30th anniversary season, is proud to announce that they were the winners of Best Classical Recording at this year’s Music Nova Scotia Awards held last evening in Truro.  Pictured just after accepting the award are Artistic Director and Founder, Jeff Joudrey, with Camerata Board Fundraising Chair, David McKillop.  

The choir won for their 2015 release, A Time for All Things, recorded by Leaf Music’s Jeremy Van Slyke, and featuring guest artists, accompanist Lynette Wahlstrom, the Blue Engine String QuartetJennifer Jones, violin; Hilary Brown, cello and Jeff Reilly, bass clarinet.  Recorded at Saint Benedict Parish (Halifax) and Trinity-St. Stephen’s United Church (Amherst), this is the fifth recording for the Nova Scotia choral ensemble, and features thirteen pieces composed in the last two decades, six which are by Canadian composers.

 Next up for the choir is Solstice, a holiday-themed program with soprano Nicole Jordan and Alchemy, taking place on Saturday, December 3 at First Baptist Church in Halifax.  Tickets are available through Ticket Halifax.

Founded in 1986, Halifax Camerata Singer has become one of Canada’s leading chamber choirs, winning the Healy Willan Grand Prize for Canadian choirs in 2010.  The choir is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Lloyd  Carr-Harris Foundation the Province of Nova Scotia/Arts Nova Scotia, Halifax Regional Municipality and individual donors and corporate supporters.  The choir forms the core choir of the Symphony Nova Scotia Chorus and will be travelling to Edmonton from June 1-4, 2017 at the end of its 30th anniversary season to perform at the first Edmonton International Choral Festival.
