Canada’s Finest Pipe Organists Performing in Halifax at Changing Tides 2019
Some of Canada’s finest pipe organists will be heading to Halifax in early July as Changing Tides: Halifax Organ Festival presents a talented roster of musicians performing in local churches. Tickets to these concerts are on sale now through Ticket Halifax; recital tickets are $15 and concert tickets are $25. The concert and recital schedule is as follows:

In Memory Of Organist David MacDonald, Cathedral Church of All Saints, Sunday, July 7 4:00 p.m. with local musicians Peter-Anthony Togni (organ), Shimon Walt (cello), Lorna MacDonald (soprano and sister of David) and Jennifer Jones (violin) remembering their friend and colleague. Includes premiere of Elegy for David by Peter-Anthony Togni, commissioned by Changing Tides with support from Hugh Creighton and Arts Nova Scotia.
Denis Bédard Concert– St. Matthew’s United Church, Monday, July 8 8:00 p.m. Quebec City born, Vancouver based, a not-to-be-missed concert by this international artist.
Stephen Candow (organ) and Alan Klaus (trumpet) – First Baptist Church, Tuesday, July 9 at 10:30 a.m. Stephen Candow and Alan Klaus from Newfoundland in a recital of glorious music for pipe organ and trumpet.
Stillman Matheson – St. George’s Anglican Church, Tuesday, July 9 at 3:00 p.m. Burlington’s Dr. Stillman Matheson in recital at the Round Church.
Organized Crime Duo (Sarah Svendsen and Rachel Mahon) – St. Matthew’s United Church, Wednesday, July 10 8:00 p.m. This dynamic duo has turned the staid image of the organ upside down with their program of classic organ repertoire and pop music arranged for the instrument – there will be costume changes and dazzling shoes!
Donald Hunt recital – Cathedral Church of All Saints, Thursday, July 11 1:30 p.m. Native Haligonian returns from Victoria and will demonstrate the full range of the recently-restored organ at the Cathedral – don’t miss him!
Craig Humber recital – St. James’ Anglican Church, Thursday, July 11 4:15 p.m. Based in Vienna but hailing from Corner Brook, this master of the Baroque and Romantic repertoire shows off St. James’ instrument.
Rachel Laurin concert – Cathedral Church of All Saints, Thursday, July 11 8:00 p.m. Organist composer and improviser, Rachel Laurin is from Quebec and has performed throughout Canada, the US and Europe. Visit www.rachellaurin.com for more info.
